Our Curator:

Kimberly Diana Jacobs is a PhD candidate in Art History with a concentration in Curatorial studies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. Some of her previous projects include serving as the 2016 ArtTable Summer Intern at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, curatorial research intern for upcoming exhibitions at the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU, founding director of Gallery1 art gallery at Jackson State University, 2013-2014 Romare Bearden Fellow at the Saint Louis Art Museum, and supporting exhibitions at galleries and museums across the U.S.

Our Photographers:

The media portraits in this exhibit were produced by Tom Cogill (http://www.tomcogill.com), Deirdre Davie (http://deirdredavie.com), and Dan Addison.

Tom Cogill is a freelance photographer with 35 years of experience photographing people for university publications, magazines, and non-profit organizations. His work has also appeared regularly in The Chronicle of Higher Education and numerous popular periodicals. Since 2001, he also has taken pictures across Latin America for educational and fund-raising efforts, including for secondary education in Guatemala, homebuilding in Haiti, and solar energy projects in Central America.

Deirdre Davie has been a photographer for more than 30 years. Her new work includes films with both original and found footage.  She currently serves as Senior Administrative Coordinator in the Office of the University Architect at the University of Virginia.

Dan Addison has been a staff photographer for the University of Virginia since 2005.  Before joining UVA he spent more than 20 years in the field of visual communications. He began his photography career as a sports photojournalist working for the NBA and Reuters. As the university photographer, Dan has documented most aspects of UVA life including the student experience, portraits, special events and architectural history.

The creation of this exhibit was driven by faculty and staff members of the University of Virginia (UVA) CHARGE Implementation Team, including:

  • Kelly Feltault, PhD, Program Manager for UVA CHARGE
  • Gertrude Fraser, PhD, Associate Professor of Anthropology, Principal Investigator of UVA CHARGE

  • Daniel Weller, PhD, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Caitlin Wylie, PhD, Assistant Professor of Engineering and Society
